DORA LOVE
Around October last year, 10 students in year 9 were chosen to represent our school (Colchester County High School for Girls) in the Dora Love Prize Competition. Dora Love was a Holocaust survivor who spent most of her life raising awareness around issues (such as discrimination, intolerance and hate crime) that made the holocaust possible. She made it clear that these problems are still very relevant issues, and worked to stop them. Dora Love died October 2011, but this competition allows secondary school students in Essex or Suffolk to carry on her work. Run by Essex University, the award will go to the students that best raise awareness of the things that were most important to Dora Love; standing up against any form of hate, and to not forget the consequences of such hatred. The theme picked this year was ‘Stand Together: For whom will you be a witness?’ and the prize will be presented on Wednesday 29th January.
